this is bullshit thoughI keep myself up to date with these things and the current consensus (from people who are not funded by diet companies or starting with shitty assumptions… but often from people who are shocked by their findings and close with ‘well being fat is bad anyway’ nonsense, despite proving that it’s not) is diabetes makes you fat and both types of diabetes are probably genetic (the difference being that type II comes on later in life but you had the genes for it anyway). Which is not anything like ‘being fat gives you diabetes’. I literally don’t care about what percentage of people with diabetes are fat because that is not a meaningful statistic for someone looking to avoid diabetes. You might as well pledge to not inject insulin, or visit the doctor a lot…
I’m pretty sure insulin resistance is a bullshit concept too but I can’t specifically remember reading dozens of studies about that one so I’ll not vouch for it. (like, it’s a real thing, but it’s not a disease in and of itself is what I dimly recall.)
I don’t think questions where the answer is ‘women, stop eating’ are questions worth asking at all, for obvious reasons. But really, I am a hypochondriac, I am fat, I have PCOS (which also goes along with insulin resistance, as I remember) and I am less than bothered about this. I am more concerned that my grandma had diabetes because that’s an actual risk factor. But there’s nothing to be done about that.
(I think this is just part of the way americans think both wealth and now good health are achievable by everyone if you try hard enough. Which is bigoted. And kind of laughable to people who know better. Sorry everyone, but most things in your life are down to heredity and chance! Get to grips with it sooner rather than later. Nothing you eat or don’t eat will change that you’ll die one day! No matter how many angry posts with ~science words~ you make on the internet.)
~science words~
The battlecry of the massively deluded.
The argument against science is going to work about as well for you as it does for religious extremists.
There is a good reason the vast majority of doctors, professionals who devote their lives to studying how the body works, will tell you that being overweight tends to be unhealthy. You’re a fool if you really think that this reason is some conspiracy of diet companies, fat shaming, and bigotry.
